Outreach in Asamankese

We are thrilled to share the incredible journey of the Kairos Development Mission’s medical mission to Ghana. The team, led by dedicated professionals like Dr. Kojo Adae, Dr. Clarence Clottey, and others, embarked on a transformative mission aimed at providing healthcare services and education to communities in need.

The mission’s focal point was Asamankese, where the team planned extensive activities. This included assessments at the Pentecost school, screenings at His Majesty’s school, and crucial operations performed by the surgeons from Greater Works. Dr. Adae’s departure for the UK was planned after these critical surgical interventions.

Dental Care and Collaboration

The dental team, consisting of five professionals from the Korle-bu Teaching Hospital and local dental nurses, played a vital role in providing dental care. The team also engaged with the local community, conducting assessments at the Pentecost school.

The mission saw fruitful collaborations with various stakeholders. The COP Area Head and a retired Urologist from KNUST actively participated, emphasizing the collaborative spirit. Gratitude was expressed to the Administration of Asamankese Hospital, especially Mr. Manfo, Matron, and Dr. Korang, for their invaluable support.

Medical Supplies Donation and Educational Initiatives

A highlight of the mission was the donation of urology supplies to Dr. Ken Arbuah of the COP medical team. Generously contributed by an ally in Canada, these supplies are part of the approximately 14 bags of medical resources that will aid in improving healthcare services.

Beyond medical interventions, the team engaged in educational initiatives. Dr. Clarence Clottey delivered an excellent lecture on Adolescence Health, particularly, sexually transmitted diseases to over 2000 students at the Asamankese Senior High School and Mrs. Addai conducted a prenatal education session for around 50 pregnant women. The mission also included a two-day leadership seminar for local churches led by Osofo.

Acknowledgements and Reflection

The team expressed gratitude for the phenomenal work of their surgeons, Drs. Kojo Adae and David Acheampong, who performed nearly 30 surgeries, including complex cases like hernias, fibroids, and hydroceles. The successful completion of examinations and educational sessions marked the end of a fruitful week and a half.

As the mission concludes, Kairos Development Mission is thankful for the prayers and support received. Their journey continues with a two-day leadership seminar and a hopeful return to Accra, reflecting on the impact made and the lives touched during this significant medical mission in Ghana.
