Volunteer Team and Medical Supplies

The 2022 medical mission was hosted by His Majesty’s Christian School in Asamankese from September 19 to 23, 2022. The mission served 300 pupils, their parents and 30 teachers as well as the Asamankese District Hospital. The volunteers from Canada were led by Dr Steve Addai, a Pediatric consultant and chair of the medical team of KADEM. Other members of the Medical team included, Dr. Nana Ansong and Dr. Mrs. Alexandra Ansong, both dentists and a surgeon, Dr. Fiifi Yankson from the Greater Works medical team and Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, pediatric optometrist and ophthalmic nurses from Ghana Health Services.

Operations

Dr. Nana Ansong, together with our corporate partner, Royal Dental Care, mobilized dental supplies including toothbrushes, toothpastes, sterilizers, and masks. Dr Steve Addai also mobilized additional medical supplies including face masks and shields/goggles, disposable gowns, disposable gloves (10 boxes), hand sanitizers, covid home testing kits, first aid kits/consumables (gauzes, bandages, isopropyl alcohol, pain killers: Tylenol/Advil) and suturing sets/sterile gloves. Dr Setorme Tsikata of Compassion Medical and Wellness Center, Edmonton, also donated basic tropical medications including Antibiotics, Antimalarials, Antifungal/steroid creams and inhalers/chambers.

We performed surgical operations including hernia repairs and removal of lumps and bumps with facilities provided by colleagues and administrators of the Asamankese District Hospital. Besides giving medication to patients at the school, the rest of the medical supplies were donated to the Hospital.
